#11 HOW DID I GET HERE?* NATIONAL IDENTITY IN ARCHITECTURE

National Identity in Global Architecture

Why the talk is inspiring?

MVRDV is the ultimate representative of “Superdutch”, a 1990’s generation of Netherlands architects who turned a Dutch version of iconic modernism into a worldwide export product. As the wish for a local architecture rises, the studio has recently realised a number of buildings reflecting and questioning the wish for national identity, history and local context.

The conversation is arranged in collaboration with VGTU Faculty of Architecture.

Speaker

Jan Knikker (NL)

How the speaker is exceptional?

As Head Business Development Jan Knikker shapes the public image of MVRDV, writes, curates and publishes books. For OMA / Rem Koolhaas for almost a decade he created from scratch the highly successful communication policy making OMA one of the most visible architecture offices in the world.

DOUBLE DUTCH NEDERLANDSE ARCHITECTUUR NA 1985

Bernard Hulsman

Why the book is worth reading?

Double Dutch reviews 30 years of recent Dutch architecture and comes to the astonishing conclusion that not the great intellectual Rem Koolhaas, but Luxemburgian traditionalist Rob Krier is the most influential architect of the past three decades in the Netherlands. (For now only available in Dutch but spiked with countless illustrations.)
