#18 COLLABORATIVE PLACEMAKING
12 urban strategies
Why the talk is inspiring?
Urban features, innovations and trends. How to improve modern urban habitat and spaces, which are able to represent the history while creating a new identity? 12 innovative urban strategies that create sustainable and creative city. The main driving force – community activism. Samples taken from the Belgian urban planning system, the sustainability compass techniques and personal professional experience.
Paradoxically, the development of a more sustainable and smarter city should return to the traditional urban growth. Not adjustable and editable masterplans are XXst. century tendency, a trend that does more harm and limits the natural growth of cities. Nowadays Urbanist orientation is different: to mitigate between different stakeholders, create collaboration opportunities, open up new urban strategies, process management planning and urban development of the strategic city-making games.
The talk is held on October 17th, Monday, 7.00 p.m. at the Vytautas Magnus university (VMU), science and study center, Putvinskio str., 23, Kaunas.
Entrance is free of charge.

Compendium for Civic Economy
Nesta, the Design Council and 00:/
Why the book is worth reading?
“A civic economy is emerging,” this book declares, “one which is fundamentally both open and social.” In the aftermath of the financial crisis, and in an era of profound environmental and social change, a collective reflection is taking place on how to share civic prosperity. In the meantime, an increasing number of social innovators are getting on with the job of remaking local economies. Though locally driven, their initiatives are rooted in global cultural and technological trends that preceded the recent economic downturn. This book presents 25 case studies of this civic economy – rooted in age-old traditions of the associational economy but using new organising tactics, ways of connecting with people and approaches to collaborative investment.
