Paradoxically, the development of a more sustainable and smarter city should return to the traditional urban growth. Not adjustable and editable masterplans are XXst. century tendency, a trend that does more harm and limits the natural growth of cities. Nowadays Urbanist orientation is different: to mitigate between different stakeholders, create collaboration opportunities, open up new urban strategies, process management planning and urban development of the strategic city-making games.
The talk is held on October 17th, Monday, 7.00 p.m. at the Vytautas Magnus university (VMU), science and study center, Putvinskio str., 23, Kaunas.

Donatas Baltrušaitis
How the speaker is exceptional?
Donatas Baltrušaitis is an Architect, Urbanist and Innovator. Founder of Urban research platform “BAU”, independent project expert at “BUUR” (Bureau for Urbanism), belongs to “ISOCARP” (International Society of City and Regional Planners) and is co-founder of “Lithuanian Network for Urban Innovation”. Baltrušaitis completed a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and in TU Delft (Technical University of Delft) defended his master’s degree with a “cum laude” and with a theme of self-organizing cities. During the study years, he was awarded with Arnas Dineika scholarship.
He believes there is no innovation without research and explorations. And that innovation is the only design instrument within a design process which opens up potential opportunities for the further evolution of cities. He develops and applies new urban planning principles and knowledge through articles, activism, international workshops and even through gaming. Author and co-author of scientific publications on Circular Economy and the modern role of Architecture and Urbanism. One of more significant one’s is “XXIst c. Architects Modern Condition”, published by the architectural review magazine “Archiforma”.
