Why the talk is inspiring?
The lecture hosts a presentation by Ryszard Kluszczyński, curator, art critic, and professor of cultural and media studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Łódź. Kluszczyński will speak about his writing on the artistic strategy of the “anti-memorial”, “anti-monument”, based on looking at artist interventions in public space, sculpting with light by means of its projection on state architectural building façades. The conversation between McDonnell and Kluszczyński will look at the media archive of the Green Bridge monument dismantling in 2015 in terms of how this event displayed a resistance to the soviet state representation of public space, while re-iterating the Lithuanian independent state re-imagining of public space. This will provide the opportunity to discuss a shift in emphasis from a possible deconstructive strategy of artistic intervention to a reconstructive one: from a mode of analysis highlighting the limits of the structure of the design competition, in terms of determining conditions of production, to a mode of analysis of the different possible logics of the design competition.
Talks of September 13th and 20th work as a diptych in the series. It is dedicated to the question of how light and sound could take place of ordinary forms of monumentalization and could be used as means of representation. The talk will be moderated by a philosopher, artist and curator based in Ireland Niamh McDonnell.
The talk will take place on September 20th in the National Gallery of Art, Konstitucijos ave. 22, Vilnius.

How the speaker is exceptional?
Prof. Ryszard W. Kluszczyński, PhD, media art scholar, writer and curator. Head of Department of Electronic Media, University of Lodz, Poland. Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. He investigates the issues of new media arts and cyberculture, contemporary art theory, avant-garde, and recent art practices with focus on interactions between art and science.
His recent publications include Augmenting the World. Masaki Fujihata and Hybrid Space-Time Art (2017); Human Traits. Patrick Tresset and the Art of Creative Machines (2016); Guy Ben-Ary: Nervoplastica. Bio-robotic Art and its Cultural Contexts (2015).
Artistic Director of Art&Science Meeting Program in the Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdansk (2011-). Co-curator of travelling international exhibition United States of Europe (2011-2013). Curator of the Second International Biennale of Contemporary Art “Mediations”, Poznan 2010. Chief Curator of Film, Video and Multimedia Arts in the Centre for Contemporary Art – Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw (1990-2001).
