Where will the architect go next?

As the world speeds up, and as local problems become global, the role of the architect must inevitably be rethought and re-imagined. Each generation shaped the direction of architecture in its own distinct way, emphasizing different values and forms of practice. These architectural trends have become the material layers of cities that tell us how discipline was understood throughout history and how it shapes the rhythm of our lives today.

What are the values that guide architects today as they chart a roadmap for the future? How is the role of the architect viewed by society? Are they still considered as omniscient geniuses? Do they dress in black? Has architecture reached the limit of materiality? Perhaps the role of the architect has expanded – who can we call an architect today?

In this 28th edition of the talks, we aim to explore the different practices of the younger generation of Lithuanian architects – in terms of experimentation, education, interdisciplinarity, community and planning. We will question what are the guidelines and values of the interviewees’ work and encourage discussion by posing the question – where will the architect go next?
